Alariwo at 46: His success and travails


    Veteran musician, Alariwo of Africa is a year older today.
    He was born Oluwarotimi Martins on September 4, 1969 to parents who hail from Delta state. Alariwo however grew up in Lagos where he got educated and started his career as a young journalist.
    Alariwo, a married father of 3, was trained at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria while he also possesses a diploma in Public relations from NIPR. He started out as an OAP and worked with Eko FM until 2004 when he resigned to focus on his music and other business interest. The singer and event anchor however reveal that he made his entrance into the music industry in 1987.
    Alariwo became a household name when he dropped his hit single, Yawa go gas which was followed by Boju Boju, an equally successful track. It has however not been a smooth journey for the singer as he has had his own share of scandals and controversies. According to the Afrobeat musician, he brought his first car from the $10,000 he got paid after suing CNN who erroneously referred to him as Fela’s son.
    In July, 2014, Alariwo was attacked by armed robbers in Ibadan was shot 4 times. He had a bullet removed from his stomach after the incident.
