Nigeria continued its dominance in age group football last night after emerging the U-23 champions of Africa.
The U-23 national side, also known as Dream Team VI, defeated favourites, Algeria 2-1 to be crowned champions. The final match which ended 2-1 confirmed that Nigeria would be competing at the Rio Olympics next year as Africa’s title holders.
Etebo Oghenekaro’s first half goals were all the Samson Siasia side needed to maintain its dominance.
Like the Semi final clash against host, Senagal, Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Emmanuel Daniel was again a saving grace for Nigeria as he made several impressive saves including a Zinedine Ferhat second half penalty.
This is the first time Nigeria would be clinching the U-23 African championship.
