‘I’m ready to die for Nigeria over social media bill’ – Senator Na’Allah

    Senator Ibn Bala Na’Allah sponsors a bill that could silence Nigerians.
    The ‘Bill for an Act to Prohibit Frivolous Petitions and Other Matters Connected Therewith (SB.143)’ a. k. a. ‘anti-social-media bill is good for Nigeria.’
    That’s why, according to Deputy Majority Leader of the Senate, Bala Ibn Na’Allah (APC, Kebbi South), he brought it to the Red Chambers.
    Of course, Nigerians don’t like the bill which they fear will kill free speech. They have been kicking Na’Allah’s ass all over social media over the ‘stupid’ bill.

    But N’Allah sef dey hala say him go rather die than have the bill killed.
    Some say the bill is a brainchild of Senate President Bukola Saraki. Na’Allah said that’s not true as he’s ‘too old for the Senate President to toss around. Go and ask him and tell him I said so.’
    A look at the bill
    If passed into law, the bill stipulates two-year jail term for anyone who posts abusive statements on the social media. The alternative to jail is a hefty N2 million fine.
    The bill makes it unlawful for anyone to submit any petition, as well as statement intended to report the conduct of any person for the purpose of an investigation, inquiry without a duly sworn affidavit confirming the content to be true and in accordance with the Oaths Act.
    The bill stipulates that any petition or complaints not accompanied by a sworn affidavit would be considered incompetent.
    Na’Allah said he sponsored the bill because he’s sure it’s good for Nigeria. He added that he’s ready to die doing what he believes is good for his country.
