President Paul Biya of Cameroon yesterday met with his Nigerian counterpart President Muhammadu Buhari, during the first leg of his two days official visit to Nigeria.
At the instance of Nigeria, the visit will enable both leaders to rub minds and focused on paramount issues of security and economic matters. Boko Haram and the new cross border security concern of rampaging herdsmen are to top the agenda for the visit.
Biya who was accompanied by his wife, Chantal, and senior Cameroonian government officials, were received at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, by President Buhari where they conferred on issues of common interest to Nigeria and Cameroon, including ongoing
bilateral and regional cooperation against terrorism, violent extremism and cross-border crimes.
According to Femi Adesina, Senior Adviser to the president on media, new bilateral issues will be discussed as well as new agreements signed during the visit.
“It is expected that new agreements to strengthen existing ties, as well as trade and economic relations between Nigeria and Cameroon, will be concluded and signed before the end of President Biya’s visit.
“A joint communiqué on the visit and the talks between the two presidents and their officials will be issued before President Biya’s departure from Abuja on Wednesday,” the statement said.
The Cameroonian president’s visit is expected to end today.
