Former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih has debunked rumour of his death making rounds on social media, describing it as the handiwork of mischief makers.
Rumours of his death in a London hospital due to some cancer related ailment trended on social media, igniting great concern among his family, associates and friends all over the world.
However, Chief Anenih told NAN on telephone from London, where he has been for a while, that he was well and strong.
“If I am dead, will I be talking to you? I am in London; I am alive and enjoying myself,” he said.
“I am not going to issue any press release to debunk the rumour. God will punish them and I believe that they will die before me. I will be back by Sunday.”
Also, the Edo State chapter of the PDP has dispelled the rumour of its national leader’s death.
Edo State chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, and a former youth leader of the party in the state, Barrister Vincent Akhere, described the claims as total fabrication and handiwork of mischief makers.
Akhere said he spoke with Chief Anenih on phone on Wednesday morning, adding that Chief Anenih travelled to London on Tuesday and would be back in the country at the weekend.
“I spoke with him on phone about 15 minutes ago. Chief is well, alive and kicking. We even joked over the matter. It is true that chief had a surgery not too long ago but he’s fine now.”
Chief Orbih simply said that the rumour was unfortunate, adding that the people behind it should ask God for forgiveness.
In a statement released in Benin by Chris Nehikhare, publicity secretary of the party, Orbih urged the public to discountenance the report as Anenih was hale and hearty.
