Almushahid Initiative for Transparency and Accountability, an NGO, that promotes good governance has exposed what it calls high level of alleged impunity and corruption at the national headquarters of New Partnership for African Development, NEPAD, calling on appropriate agencies to take actions.
In a statement by the President of the NGO, Amb. Aminu Majidadi weekend, he said prompted by a petition by stakeholders in the industry, alleging several fraudulent practices by the former Chief Executive, Fidelia Njeze, and the current Acting Chief Executive, Mrs. Augusta Ume, Which includes the alleged siphoning of the money worth several millions of Naira meant for the trip to Addis Ababa, for NEPAD, statutory meetings at the 26th summit of the African Union.
He also alleged that monies meant for the trip to South Africa, for the 53rd meeting of the NEPAD steering committee.
The trip to Lagos for expert group meetings on mainstreaming the governance of the extractive sector in APRM.
He also noted that the petitioners said the trips were never attended and they have made available relevant documents to buttress the allegations, adding that several attempts have been made by the NGO, to get the reaction of those mentioned in writing through the Freedom of Information Act, despite being acknowledged received by the relevant offices but no response has been made by the accused of these allegations.
He also noted that a staff of his office was assaulted by the Acting Chief Executive, Ume Augusta, and her personal assistant for bringing letters requesting for information on the above allegations at her office.
We are calling on the general public, Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC,and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC, to swing into action in line with the Change Agenda of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, to investigate these allegations.
