Johnny Depp‘s new movie ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’ has reportedly flopped at the box office on its opening weekend.
The sequel to ‘Alice in Wonderland’ made a disappointing $28.1 million on its opening weekend in the US, after being projected to earn $70 million according to The Wrap.
Deadline also reported that it earned just $65 million internationally.
The flop comes after Johnny’s wife Amber Heard filed for divorce last week, three days after his mother Betty Sue Palmer passed away.
The actress was granted a domestic abuse restraining order against her husband after attending court with a bruised face. She claimed that Johnny had ‘smashed his iPhone on her face’ and told the judge that she had video footage of an attack by him.
Amber later called for a boycott of the film, with the hashtag ‘#ImWithAmber’ starting appearing across social media.
Many industry analysts believe Depp’s legal woes could also spell disaster for the forthcoming Pirates of the Caribbean movie. ‘These allegations, if true, pose a serious threat to the box-office longevity of Johnny Depp,’ analyst Jeff Bock told THR.
