Police Arrests Wanted Boko Haram Commander

The police has arrested wanted Boko Haram commander who is on the wanted list displayed by the military authorities, in Gombi local government area of the state.

This is just as the boko haram insurgents on Thursday night launched attack on Kuda -Kaya village, Madagali local government area of Adamawa State, killing 18 people on the spot and injuring 10 others.

Reports from the village, located about 3km from Gulak, the administrative capital of the local government, indicate that the Boko Haram insurgents stormed the village situated on the fringes of the dreaded Sambisa forest around 10 pm  while the villagers were observing wake for a deceased member of the community.

The suspected commander was allegedly sighted by a policemen at a security checkpoint who instantly recognises him being one of the wanted Boko Haram commanders.

The policemen reportedly removed his uniform and started trailing the suspected Boko Haram terrorist who went to a First Bank branch in the area in an attempt to withdraw money, where he was apprehended.

Meanwhile, speaking to LEADERSHIP Weekend on telephone, an eye witness in the Kuda-Kaya attack, who gave his name as Ijasini, said that the Boko Haram took the villagers by surprise as members of the community never envisaged such attacks following a lull in the activities of the insurgents.

“Everyone was busy either dancing our watching those who were dancing. Unknowing to us, some of the Boko Haram members joined in the dance while some of them were cheering. All of a sudden, a good number of them stormed the area on motorbikes and immediately opened fire.

“When our people were running, the Boko Haram members who were among the dancers, blocked them. That was how We lost 18 innocent people.   10 people sustained various degrees of injures. They were rushed to Gulak Cottage Hospital.”

Also speaking, a resident Michika who gave his name as Kwaji, said;” this afternoon, some corpse were taken from Michika General Hospital. They ere among the injured people brought this morning from Kaya.”

Reacting to the incident, the member representing Michika/Madagali federal constituency, Hon Adamu Kamale called on the people of his constituency to be ;” vigilant and report any suspicious movement to security agents. I have contacted the JTF and they are doing everything possible to  secure the whole environment.”

Confirming the attack, the public relations officer of the Adamawa State Police Command, DSP Othman Abubakar said “So far 18 people have been killed in the attack but the number of the casualties could not be ascertained
