Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila on Friday said he wants the police to investigate his alleged role in the padding of the 2016 budget.

In a statement on Friday, Gbajabiamila said he had submitted himself to the police, stating that he wants a thorough investigation done.

Gbajabiamila said there had been reports that he was involved even though the former chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin didn’t mention his name.

Jiibrin had accused Speaker Yakubu Dogara and three other principal officers; Deputy Speaker, Yussuff Lasun; Chief Whip, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa; and Minority Leader, Leo Ogor of padding the budget to the tune of N40 billion.

Gbajabiamila admitted that he attended a principal officers’ meeting on Thursday, where all the officers signed a joint statement to disown Jibrin but disclosed that he gave a condition before signing the statement that he would want his alleged role in the budget padding to be investigated.

“A prepared text was read and we all agreed to sign. The decision to relieve Hon. Jibrin was indeed a collective decision, which I was a part of. I told them I would submit myself, on my own volition, to the police for investigation to clear my name,” the statement read.
