According to the WHO, “the purpose of health financing is to make funding available as well as to set the right financial incentives to providers to ensure that all individuals have access to effective public health and personal healthcare.” Health financing remains a critical challenge especially when squared with the challenges which attend development and demographics in the world. Let us create a context for this exploration by first linking health financing concerns to the factor of population. Globally, countries without exception operate health financing structure with evidence of mismatch between health financing needs and current health spending. But high-income countries spend 100 times more on a per capita basis than low-income countries like Nigeria. And that is after adjusting for cost of living differences.
