Nigeria is not ripe for state police ― Sheriff Deputies

A Security outfit, Sheriff Deputies has said that Nigeria is not ripe for state police but community-oriented policing is the way to solving the insecurity situation of the country.

The Managing Director, Sheriff Deputies, Dr Island Anyasi, spoke to newsmen at a press conference to mark its 21 years of existence recently held in Lagos.

The Managing Director said that community-oriented policing brings police closer to the people and consequently guarantees peace and tranquillity.

“We are not ripe for state police. State police will make the Governor of the state so powerful to the extent that elections will be manipulated. If an Igbo man and a Yoruba man have an issue, they will not get a fair hearing. But for the current standard that we have, it is a mixture of all Nigerians.
