CALABAR- RESIDENTS of Calabar, Cross River State, have raised the alarm over the critical health hazard a government-owned dumpsite at Ikot Effanga Mkpa, near Northwest Filling Station, on the outskirts of the state capital, pose to their lives.
They called on the state governor, Prof Ben Ayade, to relocate the dumpsite measuring about 32-square meter, complaining that many residents were currently battling with cancer, diarrhea, cholera and respiratory tract infections because of emissions from the dumpsite.
Environmental experts who spoke to NDV, corroborated the claim of the residents, saying the people were facing the menace of deadly diseases due to “toxic exposure.”
