ABUJA—Ahead of the 2019 general election, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, yesterday, warned judgesin Nigeria to watch company they keep, saying saying politicians are desperate to destroy judges.
The CJN, who spoke in a keynote address at the Annual Conference of Justices of the Court of Appeal, in Abuja, noted that in the frenzied political activities leading to the general election, politicians would “do anything not necessarily legal, to have their way.”
He said Judges must as a mark of responsibility, cut the supply-line of corruption in the judiciary by being conscious of the people they open doors to, saying it was the only way to insulate the judiciary from ridicule and embarrassment.
