Rivers community pickets fertilizer firm over frosty relations

PORT HARCOURT— A large number of protesters in Aleto community, Eleme Local Government Area, Rivers State, yesterday, shut down the Indorama company, a fertilizer manufacturing firm, over lingering issues with the community.

The protesters, men and women in their hundreds, picketed the company, vowing to sustain the shut down of the company for as long as it takes until their demands were met.

In response,  Dr. Jossy Nkwocha, spokesman for Indorama, simply said: “Any issue that resulted in the protest will be resolved amicably.”

Also, Dandy Loveday, who spoke on the community’s position, said they were asking that a staff of the company simply identified as Mr. Kendrick, be removed as Community Relations Manager and in his stead, one Benjamin Ngokanya be appointed as replacement. “No Benjamin, No Indorama,” they said.
