2019: Much ado about election sequence

Controversy over sequence of election is on the front burner since the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), released the 2019 general elections timetable.

INEC fixed Presidential and National Assembly (NASS) elections for Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, while Governorship and State Assembly elections come up Saturday, March 2, 2019.

The National Assembly, however, reordered the sequence of the elections, demanding that the National Assembly election should come first and the presidential last.

The argument of those opposed to the reversal, besides contending that NASS has no powers to change what INEC put forward, was that it was targeted at President Muhammadu Buhari.

Some senators event walked out of the chamber to protest the adoption of the reordering of election sequence put forward by INEC by the Senate.
