Corroded roofs, crumbling structures
Bayelsa has had a long history of gas flaring being the place where crude oil was first discovered in commercial quantity in Nigeria with the people exposed to the hazards associated with the industry.
Many of the communities are without electricity, their daily source of light being the orange colour flame illuminating the night from the flare sites in their environment, and the main cause of acid rain in the region.
