ABONNEMA – The Exec-utive Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, Rowland Sekibo, has complained about the age-long defecation in rivers by most residents of riverine communities, who use them as lavatory, saying it was contaminating the rivers.
Sekibo, who spoke at Abonnema while inspecting a water project, the second phase of the Abonnema Ring Road and rural electrification project in the area, expressed dissatisfaction with “River latrine” still used by some residents of the area.
He indicated that plans were afoot to provide good toilet facility for the people of the area, saying: “We are partnering stakeholders to get land for the building of good toilet facility in the area.”
