UYO—The Akwa Ibom State Government has rejected plans by the Nigeria Police to set up an anti-terrorism unit in the state.
A statement by the state Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Sir Charles Udoh revealed that the plan to set up such sensitive unit particularly during this period of electioneering campaign was suspicious.
The statement reads in part: “Clearly, judging from all indices that precede the creation of such sensitive anti-crime unit, creating an anti-terrorism unit in Akwa Ibom at this time is suspecious. The question is, of what use is an anti-terrorism unit in one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria?
