Community protests indiscriminate arrest by police over murder of 18-year-old in Imo

Owerri—NO fewer than 10 persons were   arrested by Imo policemen in  Umuohunma, Ezuofoke community of Umunna in Onuimo Local Government Area Of Imo State, following the murder of an 18-year old lady, Ulumma Ekwebelem.

Vanguard gathered yesterday in Owerri that despite reports that a known suspect, one Chibuzor  Alaneme, was allegedly responsible for the the murder, the police went on rampage in the community, arresting anyone on sight.

However, relatives of those arrested and taken to the Imo State police headquarters in Owerri at 06:15pm on Wednesday, told Vanguard that those arrested had nothing to do with the murder case.

One of them who did not want his name mentioned   said: “The police came before 7:00am, Thursday  and arrested about 10 people. The thing happened in such a way that everybody started running.
