Justice I. M Sani of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has granted N5 million bail to a cleric in Port Harcourt, Mercy Daniel Ogbonaya, who was charged of fraud by the EFCC.

The Port Harcourt Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC arraigned the suspect for obtaining money by false pretence contrary to section 1(sub 1) (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Related Offences Act and punishable under section 1(3) of the same Act.

The one-count preferred against the defendant reads: “That you, Mercy Daniel Ogbonaya sometimes between 7th September, 2018 and 8th February 2010, at Port Harcourt within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court with intent to defraud, did obtained the Sum of N23,042,000.00 (Twenty Three Million, Forty-Two Thousand Naira) from Mrs Nyingierefaa Maxwell and Mrs Macba Iniene Richard under the false pretence of business…
