Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has deployed Generation Dip/Loss Detection System (GLDS) to empower the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo.

This is coming days after the national grid experienced a total collapse throwing several cities into darkness as generation dropped to 64.70 megawatts.

Though, few hours later after the collapse, TCN said the collapse of the national grid on Monday morning was caused by a fire incident at the Afam power generating station, leading to a sudden generation loss of 25 MW and 305 MW, respectively.

The company, in a statement, yesterday, signed by its GM, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said that the GLDS would play an important role in detecting and responding to sudden drops or dips in power generation across the network.

She stressed that the digital solution would provide grid controllers in NCC with advanced tools for real-time monitoring and analysis of grid performance, noting that its intuitive interface allows for the setting of…
