We marked International Women’s Day last week and as I thought long and hard about what to write about to commemorate this day, I found myself torn between celebrating the many accomplishments of so many women across the world and highlighting the stark reality of the lives of many women.
As I looked through the many stories written in the media over the past 10 years and I thought of the images seen on TV programmes about the lives of women even just recently the huge fall out in Hollywood with the whole sexual abuse debacle of the media mogul Harvey Weinstein, I suddenly felt saddened at how much more needs to be done to protect women’s lives.
Then I looked through my own mail bag to see the theme of letters sent from women and I was struck by the main issues in almost all the letters sent by women. It was about depression and some form of abuse. There was…
