The House of Representatives has resolved to investigate the death of a personnel of the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Ojo in Lagos, Richard Onumegbu, after he was alleged to have been brutally tortured by officials of the Nigerian Navy.
This was sequel to the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance moved by Ginger Obinna Onwusibe (LP, Abia) at plenary on Tuesday.
Onwusibe while moving the motion said Onumaegbu was subjected to brutal torture on March 26 for a horrifying duration of 5 hours between 8 pm to 1 am by five Naval officers reportedly summoned by an aggrieved lady who had issues with the deceased
“This barbaric act not only robbed, Onumaegbu of his life, but also tarnished the reputation of the Nigerian Navy and violated fundamental human rights.
“Measures are needed to forestall the possible breakdown of law and order by aggrieved youths protesting the tragic and untimely death of their colleague and brother whose life was cut down at its prime,…
