Staff of Federal Ministry of Health, in Abuja has protested the continued stay in office of Dr. Amina Shamaki, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry over what they termed ‘’insensitivity to staff incentives and maladministration.
The protest involved a large number of the workers who displayed placards with inscriptions like “Dr. Shamaki must go, let ministry of Health survive; No training of staff since 2015, Head of Service, please save Ministry of Health; Dr. Shamaki is inexperienced, we need experienced perm sec; Maladministration by perm sec.”
The Federal Civil Service Senior Staff Union, Federal Ministry of Health branch were said to have commenced marathon meetings over the issue, while workers are also spoiling for a possible standoff against what they say is the ministry’s alleged poor handling of the issue.
Director of Communications in the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, Haruna Imrana, said that the affected directors have the right to demand for justice or seek redress, but they should explore measures as enshrined in the public service rules.
He noted that such government workers must exhaust all laid down channels, including the Service Compact with Nigerians/Public (SERVICOM) or the Federal Civil Service Rules.
Winfred Oyo-Ita, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, at the ministry headquarters who intervened, pleaded with the protesting staffers to exercise patience as efforts were under way to address their grievances.
Further Oyo-Ita, who tried to calm the workers frayed nerves, promised that the committee was looking into their grievances, but needed time to work out modalities to address the issues on ground.
She assured the workers that government was doing its best to ensure improved working condition and welfare for the country`s general workforce, adding that, there is need for all civil servants to continue to abide by the rules and regulations of the civil …Read More
