A 37-year old man, Henry Usifo has been arrested and charged before a magistrate’s court sitting in Ejigbo for attempting to kill a co-suspect detained in police cell in Lagos state, Western nigeria.
The police at Igando division arrested Usifo for contravening traffic offence and detained in the cell.
When he got into the cell, he met another suspect there, identified as Johnson Olowofoyeku.
The two suspects, Usifo and Olowofoyeku started quarreling inside the cell which resulted to both engaging in physical fight.
In the process, Usifo reportedly carried Olowofoyeku up and hit him on the cell’s floor. Olowofoyeku then began bleeding profusely and subsequently fainted.
This forced the police had to open the cell and rush Olowofoyeku to the hospital where he was rejected by doctors due to the seriousness of the injuries he sustained. He was then taken to two other hospitals but was also rejected.
He was eventually admitted in Crest private hospital where the doctor revived him.
P.M.NEWS gathered that though Olowofoyeku has been revived he is yet to recover fully as the doctor passed a pipe in his private part to enable him pass urine.
Usifo was charged with attempted murder under the Criminal code.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor Mr Femi Adeleye objected to his plea by informing the presiding Magistrate, Mr A.A Fashola that the condition of the victim was still critical at the hospital.
He said Usifo might jump bail if he was granted.
However, the court granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when he will perfect his bail.
