Woman batters housewife for calling her a witch

A housewife, Funsho Ajayi, has been hospitalised after she was battered by her female co-tenant, Adeyemi Adijat, during a fight over an allegation of witchcraft in Lagos State, western Nigeria.
The 31-year-old Adijat was arrested and charged before a Magistrates’ court sitting in Ejigbo for allegedly battering Ajayi which caused her serious injury.
Fighting broke out after Ajayi reportedly attacked Adijat and alleged she was involved in witchcraft.
The incident happened at their house at 13, Nureni Atoku Street, Akesan in the outskirts of Lagos where they reside.
According to their neighbours, both Adijat and Ajayi had been at loggerheads over the years before the incident happened.
P.M.NEWS gathered that their neighbours had attempted to settle the rift but they refused to make peace.
On the day the incident happened, the duo started their usual quarrel and during the exchange of hot words between them, Ajayi reportedly called Adijat a witch that had been hindering the progress of other tenants in their house.
The allegation did not go down well with Adijat who allegedly attempted to engage Ajayi in a fight.
They were prvented from fighting by other tenants present there.
A few days after the incident happened, Adijat reportedly ambushed Ajayi in the bathroom and poured a substance on her face and she could not see again. Adijat also allegedly battered her, inflicted injury on her and bit her face before other neighbours rescued her.
Ajayi was badly injured and was taken to a hospital where she is being treated.
The matter was reported to the police at Igando Division and Adijat was arrested and charged to court.
When she was arraigned, she pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J. O. E. Adeyemi granted her bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
