Emmanuel Arigidi, prime suspect in the kidnap of Ikorodu schoolgirls
Three more suspects have been arrested over the recent kidnapping of three schoolgirls in Ikorodu area of Lagos State, western Nigeria.
The three suspects, Wekemei Godfrey, 28, Priye Pius Gift, 26, and Omoni Rufus Fred, 32, were arrested following an intensive search for the gang members.
According to the police, the suspects were arrested between 7th and 10th March, 2016 in their various hideouts.
Their arrest followed the operation of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) deployed to Lagos by Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase and led by Abba Kyari.
The latest arrest of the suspects, has increased to 6 the total number of suspects out of the 12 that were allegedly involved in the kidnapping.
Three other suspects earlier arrested include their leader who are now helping the police to make more arrest.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations officer, PPRO, SP Dolapo Badmos, who confirmed the latest arrest, said the suspects confessed to being members of the gang that carried out the dastardly act.
She said they have been handed over to operatives in Lagos for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.
She restated the Force’s commitment to protection of life and property and will continue to strive to bring to justice anyone who perpetrates crime.
The abduction of the three schoolgirls occurred at Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary in Ikorodu Lagos State. At least 500 security personnel were mobilised for the rescue operation.
