Road accidents kill 81, injured 1,175 people in Lagos

Ghastly motor accidents have killed 81 people in Lagos State in the last one year, State Commissioner for Transportation, Ladi Lawanson disclosed on Tuesday.

Speaking at a ministerial press briefing, Lawanson disclosed that 827 road traffic crashes involving 2,372 vehicles, were recorded in Lagos in the last one year.

“This comprised 163 motorcycles, 101 tricycles, 1,686 cars, 853 buses, 196 jeeps, 476 trucks, 256 trailers, 85 containerized trailers and 82 tankers. These were recorded leading to 1,250 casualties.

“Consequent upon the crashes, 54 male adults, 21 female adults, 1 male child and 5 female children lost their lives in the crash during the period under review. 686 male adults, 416 female adults, 44 male children and 29 female children received various degrees of injuries in the crashes,” he disclosed.
