The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 election in Delta State, and former Minister for Education, Kenneth Omemavwa Gbagi, is dead.

Gbagi, a lawyer and a renowned criminologist died on Saturday, May 4, 2024. He was 62.

A statement signed by his eldest son, Emuoboh Gbagi, which was made available to journalists in Asaba, yesterday, said: “It is with profound sadness but gratitude to God that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, husband, and brother, Olorogun Kenneth Omemavwa Gbagi, former Minister of Education, who departed this life on May 4, 2024 at the age of 62.

Meanwhile, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, yesterday, expressed his heart-felt condolences to Gbagi’s family, describing his death as ‘tragic, unfortunate and heart-wrenching.’
