As Nigeria heads to the final of the ongoing African U-23 nations cup, revelations have emerged that the team has been abandoned by the government.
According to reports, the players are yet to get paid their accumulated camp allowances and bonuses by the Sports ministry.
An aide of team coach, Samson Siasia has revealed that the former Super Eagles player has had to borrow money from a friend in the US to motivate the players.
Siasia according to the undisclosed aide paid each player $100 after the team qualified for the semi-final clash against host, Senegal.
‘It is unfortunate that this is happening when the boys are desirous of qualifying for Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil next summer. The ministry should have long made provisions for this and not wait for the NFF to do it,’ the aide is quoted to have said.
NET enquiries to the NFF have however not been responded as at the time of reporting.
However, NET investigation showed that a sum of N1.2Billion was allocated to the Nigerian Football Federation in the 2015 budget out of the N6.6B allocated to sports.
